It is reassuring to see that the bureaucracy at the NHS has managed to more than double the cost of even PCs, which have been, for a considerable time, commodity items. Whereas Tesco manages to buy one, get one free, NHS expertise ensures that the NHS buys one, pays twice as much.
If any of the superstar purchasing professionals at the NHS get in touch, cantankerous would love to hear how they do it!
We’ll have to see if the Norwich-based and Orwellian-named YAQ, Office of Government Commerce (OGC), manages to perform a similar Sale of the Century with its newly chosen supplier Viglen, world-famous for its cutting-edge service to, ehem, UK schools. Dell, Hewlett-Packard or the young apprentice, Viglen. Interesting choice for 70,000 PCs for the ever expanding UK public sector. Sir Alan Sugar must be very pleased with his apprenticeship ads for the government.

This is absolute rubbish!
The NHS are currently purchasing Dell Computers for a lot less than the £379 you have stated, where did you get your facts from or are they just fictitious.
It is good to know that the NHS is now paying less than it was. It wasn’t fictitious, but it was written in the Spring of 2009: it is now December 2009.
